Course Description
Band 7 is a continuation and broadening of the study began by students in Band 6. Students enrolling in Band 7 generally have one year of playing experience on their instrument unless special arrangements have been made with the director. All the concepts covered in Band 6 are incorporated regularly.
Band 7 students will add the concert key signatures of Ab and F major. 2/2 meter is introduced. Rhythms include many sixteenth note patterns, syncopation, triplets, and dotted eighth-sixteenth patterns. Added expression items include staccato, legato, and sforzando articulations, pp, ff, and fp dynamics. The music performed is often up to a 2 on a 1-5 difficulty scale. The band generally performs three concerts per school year in order to showcase their learning.
