Course Description

Personal Fitness courses will give students the opportunity to experience a variety of individual and group activities that can provide lifelong fitness, and wellness.

Activities may include using the treadmill, elliptical machine, free weights, resistance bands, and medicine balls. These activities are designed to provide real life experiences to help develop and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle, and to help the students reach their personal best.  

Power Standards

  1. The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
  2. The physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.
  3. The physically literate individual demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.

Course Outline

Semester One

Guiding Questions Learning Objectives 
  • Are you able to apply knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics related to movement and performance?
  • How do I achieve and maintain a healthy and enhancing level of physical activity and fitness?
  • Enhance their self-concepts through a sense of achievement and increase awareness of their strengths and weaknesses, abilities and limitations.
  • Develop an understanding of the effects of exercise on the human body through basic knowledge of current health related physical fitness
  • Applies leadership skills and group participation in accomplishing tasks.
Assessments: Visual Observations, Anecdotal Records, Skills demonstration

Semester Two

  • Are you able to apply knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics related to movement and performance?
  • How do I achieve and maintain a healthy and enhancing level of physical activity and fitness?
  • How do you properly use the equipment?
  • Develop an understanding of motor skills and movement principles to meet the rigors of daily living, working, and lifetime leisure activities.
  • Enhance their self-concepts through a sense of achievement and increase awareness of their strengths and weaknesses, abilities and limitations.
  • Develop an understanding of the effects of exercise on the human body through basic knowledge of current health related physical fitness.
  • Display proper etiquette
