Mrs. Belonga

Carly Belonga

Salut! Kaleidoscopes French teacher is Ms. Carly Busch and it is her fourth year teaching French at Kaleidoscope Academy. She was born and raised in Appleton, Wisconsin. Her own studies of French began in middle school, continued at Appleton West High school and then later on at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

At UWO, she spent a period of 5 months in France where her skills, knowledge, and interest in the language and culture grew further. In 2009, she received a Bachelor’s degree in French Education.

Outside of teaching, she enjoys spending time with family, her cat Peanut, and going to the UP to relax and have fun. She is both excited and passionate about her career as a professional educator and is pleased to have begun teaching in her hometown where she can best relate to students.

Andrea AmelSeñora Amel

¡Hola! Soy Señora Amel, la profesora de Español 7th, Español 8th y Global Perspectives (6th). Did you catch that? Mrs. Amel is proud to be in her 11th year teaching middle school Spanish in the Appleton Area School District. This is her 4th consecutive year teaching at Roosevelt/Kaleidoscope, teaching level 1 Spanish and her 2nd year teaching 6th grade Global Perspectives, where students explore a little bit of Spanish, French and German before choosing a language in 7th grade.  It’s a big decision, so the kids should choose the language they enjoy the most and would want to learn for two years. Mrs. Amel feels privileged to share the fun of learning another language with her students.

Mrs. Amel took Spanish in high school (Green Bay East), and Graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton with a Spanish degree and education certification. She has been to Costa Rica three different times, for a total of 1.5 years, where she really got to practice the language and learn all about their culture. She currently lives in Oshkosh, where her husband teaches 4th grade. They have two children, William (5) and Lucy (3).  In her free time she enjoys spending time with family, riding bikes, swimming, watching movies, reading, and cooking exotic food. She also loves a good cup of coffee.

Maddie Liedtke Maddie Liedtke

Ms. Liedtke holds a Masters Degree in Education with a focus on culturally relevant studies. She also earned my Bachelor's’ Degree majoring in Hispanic Studies and k-12 Education.

Ms. Lietdke has spent her entire educational career teaching Spanish. She recently moved here from The Twin Cities. It was in WI that she started her teaching career, but she was teaching around Minneapolis for the past 5 years. She has a passion for languages and world cultures. Ms. Lietdke loves being active outdoors, doing yoga or dance, bullet journaling, reading and anything artsy. Studying in Costa Rica and living in Spain ignited her fire for traveling and learning about other cultures. She has had the great privilege to travel to The Dominican Republic and Costa Rica as well. Ms. Lietdke enjoys translating during mission trips and speaking Spanish with whoever will practice with her!

Every year she works to improve upon her lessons from the previous year. Recently, she began teaching using an innovative method called Comprehensible Input, or CI and implementing more equitable practices for all learners. Through this method students become comfortable with the language through listening and speaking activities and less emphasis is put on grammar structures and writing activities. With these methods students will gain proficiency more quickly and will have more confidence in their abilities, all while having fun learning! Ms. Lietdke is confident in her ability to retain the elements of fun and personalization that have helped her learners previously in a virtual setting.

My name is Norma Meidl and I was born in Mexico City.  I have lived in Mexico, Germany, Spain and the United States.  I am always asked which one is my favorite, and I honestly can say that I love them all.  Each country has its own richness and flavor and I miss things from each one.

I have been living in Wisconsin 31 years now and I have taught German and Spanish for the AASD for 30!  I met my husband, Dr. Kevin Meidl, at West where I student-taught.  He just retired and taught choral music for 37 years in the district.

We have 2 kids (young adults now).  Chris is 23 and Lauren is 21.  They both are in college.  We love to travel, watch sports, musical theater and our 2 dogs Sadie and Nova.  We live in Neenah.
