Essential Staff

These staff members help keep Kaleidoscope running smoothly day in and day out. Their roles range from office staff, building engineers, School Resource Officers, counselors, and more.

Sarah CoenenMs. Coenen

Ms. Coenen is Kaleidoscope Academy’s Instructional Coach. Her main role is to work with teachers in Professional Learning Communities to improve their practice and learning outcomes for students. Prior to becoming a coach, Ms. Coenen was a classroom teacher for 19 years ranging from grades 4th-8th. Ms. Coenen received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. In her spare time, Ms. Coenen loves traveling, reading a good book, or cooking delicious meals. 

Shandee Kempf-CohenShandee

Shandee Kempf-Cohen will be working as a School Counselor at Kaleidoscope Academy and comes to the Appleton Area School District with 11 years of experience from the School District of New London.

Shandee received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and her Master’s degree from Lakeland College.

Shandee is excited to be at Kaleidoscope Academy and can’t wait to be an advocate for students while teaching them about important life skills such as having a growth mindset, using daily mindfulness, and social thinking. 

Shandee lives in Appleton with her husband and two sons. Shandee enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, cooking, being outside.

Ms. Dickenson started at Kaleidoscope Academy in 2018. Originally she was a Special Education Paraprofessional while she was completing her Master’s in School Counseling. In 2021 she moved into her role as a School Counselor.

Ms. Dickenson lives in the country with her family. They have a Golden Retriever named Buck and a Black cat named Oso who both love to be around humans. The humans of her family spend lots of time cooking, reading, watching our favorite TV shows, and going to the YMCA.

When Ms. Dickenson has free-time; she loves to be by the lake, travel, bake, and go out to eat. She has a hard time turning down coffee and chocolate and loves to laugh. Ms. Dickenson has always had a passion for working with children especially when it is surrounding mental health and social-emotional learning. 

Lisa Hermus

Mrs. Hermus has worked as a school psychologist in the Appleton Area School District since 2005. In addition to working at Kaleidoscope Academy, Mrs. Hermus works at Jefferson Elementary/Fox River Academy and Columbus Elementary/Appleton Bilingual School. 

Prior to working in the AASD, Mrs. Hermus worked as a school psychologist in Bloomington Minnesota School District for 8 years.

Mrs. Hermus grew up in Appleton and graduated from Appleton West. She earned a Bachelor of Art degree in Psychology from University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a Master of Science in Education degree in School Psychology from University of Wisconsin-Stout. 

In the schools, her role is to collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.  When Mrs. Hermus is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Ryan, and their daughter, Ella.

Shannon Paulson

Shannon Paulson is our school nurse here at Kaleidoscope.  This is her second year with Appleton Area School District, but Shannon has over 15 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse. She also serves Appleton Bilingual School, Columbus, Edison, and Franklin Elementary Schools. Nurse Shannon is originally from Chetek, Wisconsin where she grew up on a family produce/hobby farm and greenhouse.  She moved to the Fox Valley in the late 90’s.  Nurse Shannon is married and has three great kids, two dogs, 11 chickens, a big garden and a fish farm out in the country. Nurse Shannon enjoys traveling, camping, gardening, playing ukulele, and spending time with her family. Nurse Shannon makes sure every one of her students have all the resources they need to be healthy and safe. If a student has a health condition, she works with the student, their parents/guardian, and doctor to be sure they have the most up to date health plan and medical information available. She oversees all medications, medical procedures, and staff education related to each student’s health condition and uses a holistic approach to care. Her favorite place to be is in the Health Room with students making sure they have the best care possible.

Vicki Powers

Mrs. Powers started at AASD in 2016, working as a Health Para at the elementary level, and is excited to be starting her first full year at KA. Mrs. Powers has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from UW-O, and has spent most of her career doing financial analysis, so she is happy to be working with students in her second career. When she’s not working, Mrs. Powers loves to spend time with  her husband John and other family and friends. Mrs. Powers also sings in a barbershop quartet and chorus, and does a lot of volunteering. She also loves to travel and craft. 

Patti Garvey

Ms. Garvey came to Kaleidoscope Academy in 2016. She brings almost 20 years experience working with children and families, where she spent most of that time with Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh. She lived in Colorado for a couple of years before returning back “home” to Appleton.  

Ms. Garvey is happy to be back in the community she grew up in, being closer to family and working with children again.

She enjoys Packers and Brewers games, live music, going to her lake cabin in the northwoods, and playing sports with her son.

Paula Reigel

Ms. Reigel has been with Roosevelt since August 2000.

She works as the SWISS data entry person and Reflection Room supervisor.

She also work the Boys and Girls Club before/after school program for the past 8 years. She enjoys the special bonds and connections she makes with her students.

Clarke Davison

Mr. Davison has been the Building Maintenance Engineer at Kaleidoscope Academy since 2008. He is responsible for the HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing systems in the school building.

As part of AASD Energy Management Program he schedules school events & activities into the  Building Control System. He coordinates all contracted services, performs security and safety inspections, responds to all alarms and emergency calls and is responsible for snow removal.

When not at work he enjoys camping, riding bike, playing golf and fishing.

Clarke is a licensed Power Plant Operating Engineer, Facilities Maintenance Technician and a Heating and Air Conditioning Technician.
