Families

At Kaleidoscope Academy, we believe that education is most successful when families, students, and staff work together in partnership. As a middle school serving grades 6–8, we recognize the importance of these years in shaping young people’s academic and personal development. With that in mind, we’ve established clear expectations for all members of our school community—including parents and guardians.

Our expectations for families are not about creating more rules—they are about building trust, communication, and a shared commitment to your child’s growth. We work hard to create a learning environment built on restorative practices, strong relationships, and high standards. Your support helps us maintain that environment and ensures your child can thrive.

Below are some key expectations we have for our Kaleidoscope Academy parents and guardians:

  1. Stay Engaged in Your Child’s Learning
    • Check grades and assignments regularly through Canvas.
    • Attend Student-led Conferences, Presentations of Learning, concerts, and school events when possible.
    • Encourage consistent attendance and help your child arrive on time, ready to learn. Maintaining a consistent schedule at home and school increases predictability and reduces anxiety. Have a routine for charging your child’s Chromebook each night and make sure they are fully prepared for the next day.
    • Ask about your student’s day, and if you can, participate in volunteer opportunities.
  2. Support Positive Behavior and Restorative Practices
    • Reinforce the importance of respectful communication and problem-solving at home.
    • Partner with us in resolving issues through education and restorative conversations rather than solely punishment.
    • Talk to your child about taking responsibility for their actions and learning from mistakes.
  3. Maintain Open Communication
    • Reach out to teachers or school staff with concerns early—before they become bigger issues. Contact teachers with concerns, respecting school contact hours between 7AM and 4PM and allow 24 business hours for response.
    • Use Infinite Campus or call the main office to let us know if your student is going to be out of school.
    • Avoid food deliveries (Doordash, etc.) to the main office; call ahead for special occasions.
    • Check school emails, newsletters, and updates regularly and keep your contact information up to date.
  4. Uphold School Policies and High Expectations
    • Support our cellphone protocols, technology use policy, and behavioral expectations.
    • Encourage academic honesty, personal integrity, and getting to classes on time.
    • Understand and support the structures we put in place to help all students succeed.
  5. Be an Advocate for Your Child—Respectfully
    • We value your voice and want to work with you. Advocacy is important and should come from a place of collaboration, curiosity, not confrontation.
    • Trust that our staff deeply care about your child and are here to help. Attend meetings if requested by staff.

We know that middle school can be a time of big transitions and growing independence. It’s also a time when students need steady, supportive adults more than ever. We want you to know that we’re here to work with you—not just for your child, but alongside your family.

Thank you for being part of the Kaleidoscope community. Together, we can create a school environment where every student feels seen, supported, and capable of achieving excellence.
